Against the backdrop of rising gas prices following the conflict in Iran, Minnesotans saved $10.46 million with Unleaded 88 at the pump during the first six months of 2026, according to data from the Minnesota Department of Commerce.
During the first half of the year, the average price of 87 octane fuel and Unleaded 88 in Minnesota was $3.40 a gallon and $3.25 a gallon respectively.
With savings of $0.15 a gallon and 69.74 million gallons of Unleaded 88 sold during the period, this translated to total savings of $10.46 million for Minnesotans at the pump.
These savings were astutely felt in June when Unleaded 88 was priced, on average, $0.18 a gallon less than regular 87 octane fuel ($3.84 a gallon). In June, 12.13 million gallons of Unleaded 88 was sold in Minnesota, yielding total savings of $2.18 million at the pump for Minnesotans.
Earlier this year, a study released by the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association showed Minnesotans have saved over $80 million at the pump with Unleaded 88 since 2013. This figure is expected to rise to over $272 million by 2030.
