A new study released today says Unleaded 88 saved Minnesotans $79.5 million at the pump from 2013 to 2024 after analyzing a decade of fuel price and consumption data. The study shows how consumer adoption of Unleaded 88 has steadily increased over time, growing from virtually zero in 2013 to nearly six percent of all gasoline sales in Minnesota in 2024. As Unleaded 88’s market share has expanded, it has primarily displaced higher-cost E10 fuel.
Furthermore, the study notes that Unleaded 88’s cumulative savings at the pump is expected to grow to $272 million by 2030.
Other key findings in the study include:
$24.7 million in consumer savings in 2024
Unleaded 88 was up to 18 cents per gallon cheaper than E10 in 2024, the largest price gap on record
Unleaded 88 sales generate $166.3 million in annual economic output
Unleaded 88 supports 1,081 jobs across Minnesota
Unleaded 88 market contributes $30.8 million in annual tax revenue at the local, state, and federal levels
